Pierce joins list of high-profile pullouts from Wimbledon
Jun 20, 2006, 18:39 GMT
London - France's Mary Pierce has joined fellow Grand Slam champions Lindsay Davenport and Serena Williams as the latest injury pullout from the Wimbledon Championships starting Monday.
The 31-year-old Pierce withdrew due to continuing tendinitis in her right foot, which has bothered her for five months.
Pierce last played in mid-February, when she lost the final of the Paris Indoors to Amelie Mauresmo.
1999 Wimbledon winner and 2005 finalist Davenport, who has not competed in more than three months, withdrew with a lingering back problem.
Williams, inactive since January with lack of fitness and a knee injury, also pulled out at the start of the week.
