FIFA sanctions five Uzbekistan players over yellow cards
Feb 17, 2012, 13:41 GMT
Berlin - Football world governing body FIFA has sanctioned five Uzbekistan national team players for deliberately getting themselves booked in a World Cup preliminary round three qualifying match.
The players were shown yellow cards against Tajikistan in the last 20 minutes of a qualifying match at the Pakhtakor Stadium in Tashkent on November 15, with Uzbekistan having already qualified for round four, FIFA said Friday.
All the bookings were in separate incidents for deliberately delaying play and earned the players automatic suspensions for the final round-three match against Japan.
FIFA's disciplinary committee has now imposed a further one-match ban on Shavkatjon Mulladjanov, Sanjar Tursunov, Islom Tuhtahujaev, Server Djeparov and Vagiz Galiulin.
The ban will be served during Uzbekistan's first match in round four.
Each player has also been fined 3,000 Swiss francs (3,200 dollars), while the Uzbekistan football association was fined 18,000 Swiss francs.
