Mandaric denies interest in buying ailing Glasgow Rangers
Feb 17, 2012, 13:31 GMT
London - Milan Mandaric denied Friday he was interested in becoming the new owner of ailing Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers.
A BBC Scotland report on Thursday said the Serbian businessman, formerly chairman and Portsmouth and now Sheffield Wednesday Leicester chairman, was keen on taking over from the administration-hit club.
'I can categorically deny there is any substance to these stories and I am disappointed that such articles are printed without foundation,' Mandaric said.
'I have never had any dialogue with anyone relating to Rangers. Glasgow Rangers is a huge football club with a great heritage and history, but I already have that here at Sheffield Wednesday.
'For clarity, I have not instructed any of my associates to register an interest in the administration process at Glasgow Rangers and I have no interest, now or in the future, of becoming involved in the club.'
Rangers went into administration on Tuesday over fears of a tax debt that could be as high as 75 million pounds.
Mandaric was last week cleared of two counts of tax evasion in a case also involving Tottenham's Harry Redknapp, the favourite for the vacant England manager's job.
