LEAD: Ajax's supervisory board steps down
Feb 9, 2012, 12:29 GMT
Amsterdam - The five members of Ajax Amsterdam's supervisory board announced Thursday their decision to step down over the latest twist in a leadership row at the Dutch top club.
The president of Ajax's supervisory board, Steven ten Have, and the other four members, Paul Roemer, Edgar Davids, Marjan Olfers and former football legend Johan Cruyff announced their decision to leave, the club said in a statement on their website.
The move comes after Ajax's bid to appoint Louis van Gaal as their new chief executive was on Tuesday blocked by an appeal court in Amsterdam.
The lawsuit was brought by Cruyff against four fellow members of the club's supervisory board in a bid to prevent Van Gaal from taking up such an influential position.
Ten Have, Roemer, Davids and Olfers appointed Van Gaal and other directors in November without consulting Cruyff.
