Tottenham pick up hard-earned point at Liverpool in scrappy clash
Feb 6, 2012, 22:57 GMT
London - Tottenham Hotspur picked up a hard-earned point Monday night at Liverpool as the two sides battled out a scrappy 0-0 draw at Anfield.
Gareth Bale came close to a winning goal for Spurs late on, but his shot was well saved by Jose Reina, while Luis Suarez, in his first match after an eight-match ban for racist abuse, headed Liverpool's best chance straight at Brad Friedel.
In the end, both sides largely cancelled each other out, and the point saw third-place Tottenham move within five points of Manchester United, while Liverpool remain seventh, four points behind Chelsea in fourth.
Suarez came off the substitutes' bench with just under 25 minutes to go and was booked for a kick on Scott Parker before almost winning it for the home side, who had the lion's share of possession.
Manchester City still top the table after the weekend's matches, two points clear of champions United.
