Arsenal's Wilshere in race against time to be fit for Euro 2012
Feb 1, 2012, 17:37 GMT
London - Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has suffered a fresh stress fracture and could be doubtful for this summer's European Championships with England.
The 20-year-old has not played this season because of the original ankle injury but had been expected to return soon.
'The club can confirm Jack Wilshere has a small stress fracture to his right foot, however it is not accurate to state he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season,' Arsenal said in a statement.
'The injury is in a different area to his previous surgery, and it will be reassessed in around two weeks' time by our medical team and medical experts who have worked together throughout Jack's recovery.
'This is a recognised complication of a complex rehabilitation process and, of critical importance, Jack's initial injury is recovering well.'
Wilshere said the new injury was in his heel but said he did not want to put any timescale on his return.
England manager Fabio Capello would want to see Wilshere showing full fitness and form for his club before selecting him for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
