Shakhtar Donetsk to appeal "harsh" UEFA doping ban on keeper
Jan 30, 2012, 10:32 GMT
Kiev - Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk will appeal a two-year doping ban by UEFA on keeper Oleksandr Rybka, the club said on its website Monday.
Confirming the ban, Shakhtar said: 'This is a an extremely harsh sentence not fully taking into account the type of violation by the player.
'Shakhtar will appeal this decision within the appropriate structure of the UEFA,'
Rybka, 24, failed a doping test in November after a Ukraine league match.
The Ukrainian international would, if the UEFA ban remains, miss the upcoming Euro 2012 competition to be held in host nations Ukraine and Poland from June 8.
Earlier this month, Shakhtar officials linked the test failure to Rybka's alleged use of a diuretic to lose weight without informing club management.
Rybka has been one of three top competitors for the starting keeper spot in Ukraine's national team.
