Liverpool resilience carries them to final
Jan 25, 2012, 21:55 GMT
London - Liverpool will play Cardiff City in the Carling Cup final after seeing off Manchester City 3-2 on aggregate on Wednesday.
Liverpool led 1-0 from the leg at the Etihard Stadium, and twice fell behind on the night at Anfield, before fighting back for a 2-2 draw and aggregate victory.
Liverpool's first-leg advantage was wiped out after 31 minutes, as City midfielder Nigel De Jong struck with a ferocious 15-yard drive.
But the Reds regained their aggregate advantage five minutes before half-time, Steven Gerrard converting from the penalty spot after Micah Richards had handled a Daniel Agger shot.
Joe Hart made fine saves from Dirk Kuyt, Martin Skrtel and Stewart Downing, but after all Liverpool's dominance, Edin Dzeko was left with a simple tap in at the back post to level the aggregate scores from Aleksandar Kolarov's cross.
That was just City's second chance on target, but Liverpool regain the initiative with their tenth, Craig Bellamy rounding off a one-two with a superb finish.
