Kompany banned for four games as appeal feels
Jan 10, 2012, 18:16 GMT
London - Vincent Kompany will be banned for four matches after the Football Association on Tuesday rejected his appeal against the red card he was shown in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.
The Manchester City defender was sent off after 12 minutes for a tackle on Nani that was deemed to be dangerous.
'Kompany will serve a four-match suspension with immediate effect,' the FA said in a statement.
'The suspension consists of a statutory three-match suspension for Serious Foul Play, plus one additional game, given this is Kompany's second dismissal of the season.'
Kompany will miss Wednesday night's Carling Cup semi-final first leg, the return at Anfield in a fortnight, plus the Barclays Premier League encounters with Wigan Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur in between.
