Rubin Kazan make Europa League point as Spurs go out
Dec 15, 2011, 19:57 GMT
Berlin - Rubin Kazan booked their place in the last 32 of football's Europa League Thursday with a 1-1 draw at PAOK Saloniki, sending England's Tottenham Hotspur out.
Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez got the important equalizer for the Russians in the 48th minute after the already-qualified Greek side went in front from a 16th-minute Vieirinha penalty.
The point was enough to leave Rubin second in group A behind PAOK, with Tottenham's 4-0 win at Shamrock Rovers - courtesy of goals from Steven Pienaar, Andros Townsend, Jermain Defoe and Harry Kane - to no avail.
Group B winners Standard Liege completed their group campaign with a 1-0 win at Copenhagen, while Bundesliga side Hanover - already qualified in second place - defeated Ukrainian outfit Vorskla Poltava 3-1.
Group C winners PSV Eindhoven downed Rapid Bucharest 2-1, while already-qualified Legia Warsaw slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Three remaining places for the last 32 are up for grabs in later matches Thursday.
