Van der Vaart annoyed to be left out of Europa League squad
Sep 13, 2011, 12:41 GMT
London - Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart said on Tuesday he is annoyed at being left out of Tottenham Hotspur's Europa League squad.
Van der Vaart pulled a hamstring during his side's 5-1 defeat against Manchester City in a league game on August 28 and at the time Spurs thought that he would be out of action for up to eight weeks.
As a result, he was not named in Spurs' Europa League squad for the group phase of the competition, rendering him ineligible to play in the competition until next year, when the knock-out phase begins.
The midfielder said on his website in a post headlined 'annoyed' that he should have been consulted on the matter, even though the coach Harry Redknapp has said that he regards the Premier League as more important than the Europa League.
'I still think it's a peculiar situation. Spurs could at least have consulted me. Anyway it's up to the point of no return. I will be focusing on the game against Liverpool (scheduled for September 18).
'I'm pretty convinced I will be fit by then.'
