Aug 9, 2011, 15:43 GMT
London - Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Steven Pienaar will be out of action for up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on Tuesday to cure a groin injury, the Premier League club said.
The South Africa player, who joined Tottenham from Everton last season, suffered the injury in a pre-season match against Athletic Bilbao.
'Following scans and consultation with an independent groin specialist, Steven Pienaar underwent groin surgery this morning,' Tottenham said in a statement on their official website.
The 29-year-old moved to White Hart Lane last January for a fee of about 2.5 million pounds (4.1 million dollars).
