Newcastle skipper Nolan poised for West Ham move
Jun 15, 2011, 15:37 GMT
London - Newcastle United captain Kevin Nolan will join West Ham United on Wednesday provided he passes a medical.
The 28-year-old midfielder rejected a new contract offer from Newcastle and looks set to link up with his former Bolton Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce at Upton Park after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
Nolan has scored 30 goals over the past two seasons, and was widely seen as a key figure in the club's promotion back to and then consolidation in the Premier League.
He had two years left on his contract, but negotiations on a new deal faltered when Nolan asked for an additional three years.
Midfielder Joey Barton, who has been told his contract will not be renewed, reacted angrily on Twitter.
'Great player, leader, captain, person, trainer and mostly a friend for life. Devastated to see him SOLD! #mejoseandjonasnext,' he wrote, suggesting Argentinian midfielder Jonas Guittierez could also seek an exit this summer.
Full-back Jose Enrique has failed to respond to the club's latest offer of a new deal.
