Gattuso faces sanctions after UEFA open disciplinary proceedings
Feb 16, 2011, 11:28 GMT
Milan - AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso faces a sanction over an incident at the end of his club's 1-0 Champions League defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
Gattuso, who will miss the round of 16 return leg on March 9 in London after receiving his second booking of the competition in Tuesday's match, faces further punishment after Europe's governing body UEFA on Wednesday said they had opened disciplinary proceedings.
Gattuso headbutted Tottenham's assistant coach Joe Jordan after the match and had to be restrained by team-mates.
The Italian international said afterwards that he accepted responsibility for his actions. 'He provoked me during the match, but it was unacceptable to act in such a fashion towards somebody who is older than I am. I will now have to see what happens.'
UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body will look into the incidents during and after the match on February 21, the organisation said.
