PREVIEW: Lampard and Terry could return for West Ham clash

By Jonathan Wilson Sep 9, 2010, 10:59 GMT

London - Chelsea duo John Terry and Frank Lampard could return for Saturday's trip to West Ham United after missing England's two internationals.

Lampard had a groin injury and Terry a damaged hamstring, but both could return for the bottom-v-top clash.

'We will see how he (Lampard) trains and we will take a decision for the game against West Ham,' manager Carlos Ancelotti said.

'Terry didn't have surgery but he used the last week to improve his hamstring. He will start to train with the squad and I think he will be able to play against West Ham.'

While Chelsea have won their first three games of the season, West Ham have lost theirs, but midfielder Kieron Dyer is determined not to panic.

'We believe we can beat Chelsea,' he said. 'It's a completely different game.

'It's a derby game and form will go out of the window. We'll have the crowd and it's one of those games where Scotty [Parker] gets in the tackles and gets the crowd going.'

Second-placed Arsenal host Birmingham City with Theo Walcott. The right winger has been in fine form this season, but damaged an ankle in England's 3-1 win over Switzerland on Tuesday.

Striker Robin van Persie is also out until mid-October.

Manchester United travel to Everton in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off, their first game since allegations about Wayne Rooney's private life surfaced.

As a former Everton player, the striker always faces a hostile reception at Goodison Park, and will face a crowd holding lots of new ammunition.

Everton have suffered their customary slow start to the season taking just a point from their first three matches.

Aston Villa's new manager Gerard Houllier will oversee his first game with a trip to Stoke City on Monday, while Sunday's match sees Liverpool travel to Birmingham City.

They will be without Dirk Kuyt, who injured his shoulder on international duty.

Manchester City host Blackburn Rovers without the injured Mario Balotelli. Six of their players played for England in Basle on Tuesday.

'It was brilliant for the club to have so many players on the pitch - and shows the quality we have got at City,' said midfielder Gareth Barry.

'It is great to have a core of English players.

'You have seen the top teams over the years, the Chelseas, the Manchester Uniteds, have had that spine of English players and been successful.'

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan could make his debut for Sunderland away at Wigan Athletic, while Newcastle United host Blackpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers go to Fulham and West Brom host Tottenham.
