Report: Maradona to be offered Argentina coaching job through 2014
Jul 15, 2010, 10:07 GMT
Buenos Aires - Argentina national coach and football legend Diego Maradona was expected to be asked Thursday to stay on for the next World Cup in 2014 despite a performance seen by many as disappointing in the recent tournament in South Africa.
The president of the Argentinian football association, Julio Grondona, was to make the offer in a private meeting, his spokesman was quoted as saying by the Clarin newspaper Wednesday.
Maradona, a star player in Argentina's 1986 World Cup victory, appeared distraught after his team lost 4-0 to Germany in the quarter-finals of this year's competition and has hardly spoken to the media since his return to Buenos Aires.
