Mandela meets Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo
Jun 10, 2010, 18:12 GMT
Johannesburg - Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo had the chance to chat with former South African president Nelson Mandela on Thursday.
The Real Madrid striker called on Mandela at his residence in Johannesburg along with Portugal's coach and the president of the national football association, Carlos Godinho.
The 91-year-old Mandela is in fragile health and rarely receivers visitors, but invited the Portuguese trio to his home, the Portuguese Football Association said.
Many prominent figures who have come to South Africa for the World Cup have requested a meeting with the Nobel Prize laureate.
But the South African icon, who turns 92 next month, let it be known that he would be able to meet only a small number of the visitors.
