Terry stripped of England captaincy (Roundup)
Feb 5, 2010, 16:28 GMT
London - John Terry was stripped of the England captaincy on Friday after the Chelsea defender met England manager Fabio Capello at Wembley.
He was expected to discuss allegations that he had had an affair with the former girlfriend of his international and former Chelsea team-mate Wayne Bridge, but their conversation took just 12 minutes.
'After much thought I have made the decision that it would be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry,' Capello said in a statement.
'As a captain with the team John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour.
'However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad.
'What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice. Terry was notified first.
'When I chose John Terry as England captain, I also selected a vice-captain and also named a third choice.
'There is no reason to change this decision.'
