London - England captain John Terry ended weeks of speculation as he committed his future to Chelsea on Sunday, saying there was never any danger of him leaving the club.
Big-spending Manchester City had made several noises about the prospect of signing Terry for around 40 million pounds (65.7 million dollars).
But the 28-year-old, who has been at Chelsea since the age of 14, said he would be staying in London.
'I am totally committed to Chelsea, always have been. Me leaving was never a possibility,' he said.
'When you are linked with any club, or with a manager who I have huge respect for, it will always make headlines.
'But Chelsea have made it clear to me consistently that there was never any intention to accept any kind of offer.'
The rumours surrounding Terry increased with every week, particularly as the captain refused to comment publicly, but Terry said his silence had been deliberate.
'Throughout this period there have been numerous discussions between myself, the owner and the Chelsea board and we all agreed that the timing of any statement would suit everyone involved in those talks, not any outside influences or agendas,' he said.
Terry's words will be a big boost to the club's new manager, Carlo Ancelotti, who said he wants to build a title challenge around his captain.
