England hammer lowly Andorra to make it seven wins out of seven
Jun 10, 2009, 21:13 GMT
London - Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe scored two goals apiece as England hammered minnows Andorra 6-0 at Wembley to maintain their perfect record in World Cup qualifying group six.
Frank Lampard and Peter Crouch got the other goals as England took their total to a maximum 21 points and put them just one win away from qualifying for next summer's finals.
The win means England have won a national record nine consecutive qualifying matches and their 6-0 win was their biggest margin of victory for nearly a decade.
David Beckham made his first England start in almost two years and his 112th appearance in total, 13 short of Peter Shilton's record.
Andorra were abject and England could have scored twice as many as they eventually managed.
Rooney put them ahead on four minutes but it took until the 29th minute for Lampard to double their lead.
Rooney scored his second 10 minutes later and after the break, when Steven Gerrard and Rooney had been rested, England were again dominant.
Defoe, on as a substitute, made it 4-0 on 73 minutes from close range and the striker scored his second just six minutes later, before Peter Crouch bundled in a sixth nine minutes from time.
