Coach Schuster hopes for Ronaldo move to Real Madrid
Jun 22, 2008, 18:30 GMT
Hamburg - Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster on Sunday expressed his hope that the Spanish champions can land Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo despite the veto of his English club Manchester United.
'Our club is after him and I would like to have him as well. He would extremely strengthen our attack because in the end this is all about winning the Champions League,' Schuster told German DSF television.
Schuster said he wasn't even deterred by a gigantic transfer fee the Spanish champions may have to dish out for the winger.
English news reports on Sunday said that Real were offering a world record 100 million euros (156 million dollars) or 80 million euros plus Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder. Brazilian Robinho has also been mentioned as part of a possible deal.
Ronaldo announced his desire to join Real after Portugal's elimination from Euro 2008 on Thursday.
But United swiftly insisted he is 'not for sale' and coach Sir Alex Ferguson has said on previous occasions he would bench Ronaldo before letting him go.
