Cristiano Ronaldo confirms desire to join Madrid
Jun 5, 2008, 15:42 GMT
London - Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed Thursday that he is keen on a move to Spanish champions Real Madrid.
There has been speculation since before the end of the season that the 23-year-old would leave for Spain, but this is the first time he has gone public.
'I want to play for Real Madrid, but only if it is true they are eager to pay me and Manchester United what they have been saying they will,' he told the Brazilian website Terra.
'However it does not depend on me.'
Ronaldo scored 42 goals for United last season, and the club have made consistent noises about keeping him, but the truth is that if he wants to leave there is little they can do to stop him.
'It is important to send a message,' he said. 'From now on I will not talk again about this until the end of the Euros. It is not worth asking me because I will not reply.'
