Nuremberg move off bottom of table with vital win

Hamburg - A late goal from Jan Koller helped Nuremberg move off the bottom of the German Bundesliga table Sunday thanks to a 1-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg. The result sees Nuremberg move on to 26 points, leaving MSV Duisburg propping up the table and Thomas von Heesen's side just two points adrift of fourth-from-bottom side Arminia Bielefeld with five games remaining. Nuremberg started the brighter of the two teams and looked to have gone in front after 14 minutes through a Koller header but the goal was harshly ruled out for offside. Robert Vittek saw his header come back of the crossbar eight minutes later as Nuremberg continued to press but as the match wore on the chances petered out and visitors Wolfsburg looked to have done enough to earn a point. However with just 11 minutes remaining, Koller sprang the Wolfsburg offside trap before slamming the ball past Diego Benaglio to secure three precious points for Nuremberg. The rescheduled match, which was originally played on April 11 but had to be abandoned at half-time due to a water-logged pitch, was the only Bundesliga game played over the weekend due the German Cup final played Saturday, where Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 after extra-time.
