Captain Terry says Mourinho would be the best man for England job
Dec 5, 2007, 0:34 GMT
London - England captain John Terry believes his former club manager, Jose Mourinho, would be the best man to take the vacant job as England manager.
Terry has already met with Brian Barwick, the FA chief, who is leading the search for a replacement for Steve McClaren, who was sacked last month after England's failure to qualify for the Euro 2008 finals.
'He is one that really stands out for me,' Terry told Sky Sports News. 'Now it is down to the FA to contact him if they want to speak to him.'
Terry formed a close bond with Mourinho at Chelsea, where the club won back-to-back Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006 - their first since 1955.
'Jose came in and took us to a new level at Chelsea,' he said. 'I am very lucky to have worked with Jose - he is a fantastic manager and a fantastic guy.
'He could make a big difference. He's a great guy, tactically he is very aware, and he understands the game very well.
'He enjoys the day-in, day-out stuff with a club side so maybe it would not suit him, but you never know.
'We are at a very low point at the moment, but we can only go forward. The FA are looking to bring in the right man to help us do that.'
