England captain Terry extends Chelsea contract
Jul 27, 2007, 18:38 GMT
London - Chelsea captain John Terry ended a summer of speculation about his future as he signed a new five-year contract with the English Premiership club on Friday.
The England captain had just over two years left on his existing contract but his new deal, which would see him through to 2012, is rumoured to be worth more than 130,000 pounds (263,000 dollars) per week.
'There has been a lot of speculation but these things take time and I never had any doubts that I wanted to stay at Chelsea and that the club wanted me to stay,' Terry said.
'I hope that the fans can see that we are all trying to build something special here, both for now and for the future, and I want to be a part of that.
'I have been at Chelsea all my career and have the privilege of being captain. Now it's time to look forward to the new season, which we are all very confident about.'
