Jun 30, 2007, 21:57 GMT
Manchester, England - Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will wear the club's legendary No. 10 jersey next season.
Rooney, 21, will swap his number eight, which he has worn since his arrival at Manchester United, for the number previously worn by legends Mark Hughes, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dennis Law.
'When I was offered the chance to wear the number 10 shirt I jumped at it,' Rooney said. 'Some of the greatest players have become legends wearing number 10 - none more so than Denis Law.'
Law is best known for the 11 seasons that he spent at Manchester United, where he scored 236 goals in 409 appearances. The Scottish great was nicknamed 'The King.'
Rooney scored 14 goals in the Premiership last season to help United win its first league title since 2003. In 100 appearances for the club, Rooney has 41 goals. He began his career in the premiership with Everton, scoring 15 goals in 67 games.
Rooney also has 12 goals in 38 appearances for England's national team.
