Ronaldinho suspension upheld, Beckham due to play

Madrid - Barcelona and Real Madrid received contrasting news on Friday evening, ahead of Saturday's crucial penultimate league matches. Barcelona learn that their appeal against Ronaldinho's one-game suspension had been turned down by the Spanish federation, which means he will not be able to play in Saturday's Catalan derby against Espanyol. Ronaldinho was given the ban after being sent off for retaliation in the 1-0 home win over Getafe two weeks ago. In contrast, David Beckham will play in Real Madrid's game away to Zaragoza, despite having a sprained left ankle. Beckham picked up the blow playing for England on Wednesday against Estonia. Spanish media reports on Friday evening, however, said that Beckham was keen to play despite the injury, and coach Fabio Capello has included him in the Real squad.
