Beckham and Cassano unlikely to play again for Real
Jan 13, 2007, 14:53 GMT
Madrid - David Beckham seems to have played his last game for Real Madrid, as coach Fabio Capello has confirmed that the former England captain is no longer part of his plans.
'Beckham will train with the team but he won't play,' Capello told a news conference on Saturday afternoon.
When asked if Beckham would go out on loan for the last six months of his contract, Capello replied: 'You will have to ask Beckham that question.'
Beckham said on Friday that he wanted to see out his Real contract, which expires in June.
However, Capello's statement may prompt his new club Los Angeles Galaxy to try to bring forward Beckham's arrival in America.
Capello also made it clear that neither would he pick wayward Italian striker Antonio Cassano.
Capello is determined to rejuvenate troubled Real, and veteran forwards Ronaldo and Raul Gonzalez might also be on their way - together with left-back Roberto Carlos.
However, the continuity of the Italian coach himself is far from certain.
Failure to beat in-form Zaragoza at home on Sunday could be the final nail in the coffin of the beleaguered Capello.
