Ronaldo reportedly ready to leave Real, Beckham confusion
Jan 11, 2007, 11:52 GMT
Madrid - Brazilian megastar Ronaldo is reportedly resigned to leaving Real Madrid in the January transfer window while the future of team-mate David Beckham remained unclear on Thursday.
The Marca sports daily said on its website that Ronaldo 'cannot put up with more and understands that the best thing for him is to leave Real Madrid in the winter transfer market'.
The popular sports daily said that Ronaldo is sitting on two offers, one from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad de Arabia - which would pay Real a transfer fee of around 7 million euros - and another offer for an unspecified European club.
Real coach Fabio Capello appears determined to have a 'cleanout' of veterans, with Ronaldo, David Beckham and Antonio Cassano to be offloaded.
None of the three players was called up for a cup match at Real Betis set for later Thursday.
The former England captain Beckham is not expected to leave until summer but there was some confusion around a statement from Real sports director Predrag Mijatovic who said in an interview with Sky Italia TV on Wednesday that Beckham's contract would not be renewed.
'Mijatovic was just stating a fact that the contract has not yet been renewed,' said Real's communications director Gaspar Rosety on Thursday.
'He did not say that the contract will not be renewed as talks are going to be taking place in the next few days. Anyone who read anything else into this has got it wrong.'
A spokesman for Beckham also said that Mijatovic's comments were misinterpreted and that Beckham's agents will sit down with Mijatovic and Real president Ramon Calderon in the coming days to discuss the contract renewal that is still on offer.
However, there are reports in Britain and the US that Beckham could be heading to the US in summer to join the Los Angeles Galaxy.
