Beckham told to make decision about Real future
Jan 9, 2007, 16:21 GMT
Madrid - David Beckham has been told by Real Madrid sporting director Pedja Mijatovic to decide whether he wants to stay on at Spanish Primera Liga club when his contract runs out at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old midfielder can leave on a free transfer once his contract expires in June and is free since the beginning of the year to speak to other clubs.
'Next week we will deal with this matter,' Mijatovic was quoted on Real Madrid's website as saying.
'He wanted some time to think about it but we are in a situation where we lack time and we have to react now.'
Former England captain Beckham has been used sparingly by new coach Fabio Capello but Mijatovic admitted that he had been offered a new contract not only for his sporting ability but also because of his global image.
