Beckenbauer: 2006 was most eventful year of my life
Dec 9, 2006, 13:16 GMT
Munich - German football legend Franz Beckenbauer says 2006 was 'the most eventful year of my life' after successfully organizing the World Cup and getting married for a third time.
Beckenbauer, who was president of the World Cup organizing committee, married his partner Heidi during the tournament on the June 23 birthday of his late mother, who had died in January.
Beckenbauer won the World Cup as captain of West Germany in 1974 and then again as national team coach in 1990.
But neither of those years appear to have matched 2006.
'The World Cup passed off successfully, I got married at the same time. A lot of things happened, and you don't get married every day. Not even me,' Beckenbauer told Saturday's Munich daily tz.
