Heerenveen, Netherlands - Ajax continued its strong play with a 2-0 victory over Heerenveen on Saturday in the Dutch Eredivisie.
With the win, Ajax records nine wins in just 10 games so far this season and sits in first place in the standings, just two points ahead of PSV Eindhoven.
Striker Tom De Mul scored the first goal just 17 minutes into the contest with a bending shot into the left side of the goal. Fellow 22-year-old, Dutch national team midfielder Wesley Sneijder, scored with a curling free -kick into the bottom right corner in the 76th minute.
Eindhoven maintained the pressure on Ajax Amsterdam with an easy 3-0 victory at RKC Waalwijk on Saturday.
Arouna Kone scored two goals after an opener from Ibrahim Afellay to lead the visitors to victory.
RKC dropped into the bottom three after the defeat and still have only one win all season.
In the other two Eredivisie matches on Saturday, ADO Den Haag picked up its first win of the season at the expense of hapless Heracles Almelo, 2-0, and Vitesse Arnhem let a two-goal lead slip away in a dramatic 2-2 match at Excelsior.
In Sunday's fixtures, AZ Alkmaar hosts FC Utrecht, Roda Kerkrade hosts Feyenoord Rotterdam, Twente Enschede hosts NEC Nijmegen, NAC Breda hosts FC Groningen and Sparta Rotterdam hosts Willem II Tilburg.
