Anelka recalled as injuries amount for France
Oct 5, 2006, 23:36 GMT
Clairefontaine, France - Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka was called up to the French National Team, Thursday, 24 hours after Les Bleus captain Patrick Vieira suffered an ankle injury in training.
The Internazionale Milan midfielder will have an MRI today to determine the extent of damage done upon colliding with teammate Lilian Thuram during a practice match.
The Hampden Park squad has more than one player threatened for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying matches against Scotland and the Faroe Islands. Vieira can be added to the list of William Gallas, Louis Saha and Willy Sagnol, as all will likely be unavailable for the international competition.
Anelka tallied seven goals in 31 appearance for the French squad, his last in a 2-1 March loss to Slovakia, the only defeat of boss Raymond Domenech's reign.
Both France and Scotland come into their contest this weekend with maximum points from the opening Group B matches.
