Of course he can look at himself in the mirror. That's what he's all about. If dirty works, then dirty it will be. I don't care if they won the cup, I can't see any heroes on the Italian team.
Exactly! The Italian's main focus was on Zidane that day, no matter what, keep him in check. That's what any team would do, take the oppositions best player out, including intimidation tactics. However, the Italian player probably went too far, regardless of what his conscience is telling him. Dirty players and cheats are always able to justify the wrong things they do.
While I don't condone Mazerrati's behavior, winning the world cup is enough justification to play dirty or unsportsmanlike. In football, as long as the ref nore the side judges see it, it's legal. If you were in the same situation with the pride of your country and the greatest football achievement in the world was resting your and your 10 other teammate's shoulders, you would see the situation in a much different light.
susan, JC you are cry babys
Yes, lots of sore losers, and lots of Italy haters. Zidane is the one who acted like an animal out there, people. He'll join the ranks of Mike Tyson, who ate someone's ear and it was captured on video. The video will never go away. Too bad for you.
Say all you want about Materazzi, but he's the one who scored the goal to tie the game 1-1 (after the ref gave Zidane a free kick - a GIFT). And then, Materazzi did not disappoint in the penalty kicks. This, along with his defensive play, makes him a hero in my eyes.
What in the heck did the guy say anyway? So much for stick and stones will break my bones but names wil never hurt me. I never believed that old saying anyway. Ones tung
What in the heck did the guy say anyway? So much for stick and stones will break my bones but names wil never hurt me. I never believed that old saying anyway. Ones tung can do more damage then one little head but. We ought to treat each other better
I wonder what ZIDANE did to provoke Materazzi to say what he said? This can go back and forth forever. This is why you can never justify physical violence. But there are a certain class of people that will never get this, and it looks like FIFA fell for the trick. Idiots.
I've had it with France. They are sore losers. They did not even congratulate the winners.
In all future World Cups, they will show the Zidane video and say, this is what France is all about.
FIFA is a joke. The disciplinary committee has no Italian representation (what a surprise!). Only French, German, Swiss, Arab. So Zidane gets no punishment (community service???), and Materazzi gets punished for words. I guess if France and Germany and the others can't win by scoring goals, they will win using FIFA's disciplinary power. Hey FIFA, all the world saw what you did. Just like we all saw the Zidane video, which can never be erased (as much as you would like).
Wow. A lot of hatred for countries from both sides! They are also those who forgive both players, because it was in the heat of the action, and congratulate the winner. Nobody died. It is OK. It is a game. The parents are still the role models. Ciao and Merci.
Susan cant see any heroes on the Italian team. Thats only because shes blinded by her own prejudices....here let me help, susan a list of Italian Heroes in the 2006 World CUp:
Cannavaro
Gattusso
Buffon
Zambrotta
Grosso
Del Piero
Materazzi
Materazzi did not cheat, he did not have a plan to provoke Zidane and have him evicted in the final 10 mins of play. Zidane himself refutes all these lies when he said that there were no problems between himself and any italian players before the incident. People need watch that game again as in the moment its easy to be won over by your passions. What precluded the incident is there for every one to see. some facts....Zidane places a beautiful header just under the crossbar that would see France win the game, but is denied by an amazing save of Buffons., Zidane in frustration lets out a howl. Couple of minutes later France are pressing again, Materazzi is in a defensive position behind Zidane and grabs his jersey, the french attack is broken up and Zidane and Materazzi begin to walk up feild...they exchange words and Zidane heads him in the chest. We cannot be 100% certain of what was said, but by comparing their testimony we can get a pretty accurate picture. Zidane went on French television to state his case saying Materazzi abused his mother and sister. Materazzi says yes he insulted him but not his mother, religion, race or politics...he left out his sister. Zidane confirms the insult was personal and was not racist and did not include the word terrorist. Both Zidane and materazzi agree what was said earlier;that is zidane told him 'if you really want my shirt at least wait untill after the game'. So basically Mats pulled his shirt, Zizou tells him to stop and wait for the game to end then he would gladly give him his shirt, Mats doesnt appreciate this arrogant jesture and tells him to 'save it for his sister' the 'putana' and to 'go fuck himself' for goodmeasure, zizou blows a fuse and floors him with his head. Now if this incident involved any one else but ZIzou this wouldnt be an issue at all. Its been blown way out of proportion and it is really disgusting. Football players are not gradeschool teachers, there rough, tough and vulgur guys including Zizou. LIke I said if zizou was joe blow, he would have recieved a stiff fine and at least a 4,5 game suspension....but hes not hes Zizou, so we forgive him, and also if Matz was anybody else maybe he gets nothing for his trouble but a sore chest, but he is who he is aswell and gets 2 day susp. with fine. So everybody spare me the bullshit....
one more thing that really irks me is all the misinformation, lies and out right slander of Materazzi's character. all manner of things have been insinuated about what he said and then taken for facts...he called him a son of terrorist whore...he wished death on him and his family..he called him a nigger....he wished his coach died a horrible death...and my favourite...he called him a 'Harkis'?? (yeah ok). and the list goes on and on. Its one thing for any idiot with access to the internet to use these false rumours as a basis for argument...but quite another when irresponsible elements of the worlds press use these baseless arguments....and their was a lot of that going around...I wonder if these same journalists after the facts came out have had the balls to appologize. I doubt it...I feel sorry for Materazzi having his reputation being drag through the mud and been labeled a racist...He should really consider bring lawsuits against some of these Papers, thats the only way for him to regain his whats left of his Good name.
This forum is flooded by ignorant pro-italian people who just can't understand that what Zidane did was justifiable. First of all, Materazzi repeatedly provoked zidane by making remarks about his ailing mother. I mean, if you keep on bending a pencil, it'll eventually break. Put things into perspective, if some clown was repeatedly making fun of ur sick mother, what would you do?
I don't think any game or sport will ever compare to the affection Zidane has for his mother and sister. He defended the honour of his family and I think it takes a REAL man to do something like that with so much at stake.
No one can dispute that Zidane is a dirty on-the-pitch terrorist. If he didn't have so much talent and a great career, he would have been run out of professional football(that is, if he hadn't already retired). Like government, people get the teams and leauges they deserve. You want Zidane, FFF, and FIFA? Think they are great? Think they are examples of the best? You can gladly have them.
It's not a wedding, they don't have to congratulate nobody, Materazzi is a DIRTY player, nobody is an angel in soccer, but you have to give Zidane credit for one thing: FAMYLY'S FIRST. Nobody should talk about your family, he showed during years to be a clean, good, talented soccer player, and some people never heard of him before, but now he is a violent player. Italians are not so happy, because Zidane has stolen the show. There is a lot of controversy about it and only the two players know the truth.
Hey Susan how is Materazzi a dirty player when supposedly a great player like Zidane did what he did. Professional athletes need to keep there cool. I'm sure all the players were talking alot of shit the whole game. The difference between winners and losers is how well they are going to play mentally and physically when the game is heating up. Especially in overtime. Zidane is a great player but he lost his mind and therefore is a loser this time. 98 was a different story. He played terrific and kept his mind sharp. They did what they needed to do to win, so for this cup all the Italian players are heros. Forza Italia
Eduardo Your comments are ridiculous. Sport has alot of trash talking. If Zidane is really going to take it to heart because of what Materazzi said he's got some problems and I guess thats why he is retiring. Come on, head buttin someone in the chest is dirty Eduardo. You don't think Zidane wasn't talkin shit the whole game. If you don't think so your blinded terribly. Materazzi got the best of Zidane. He was talkin shit and Zidane couldn't take it and Zidane acted like a fool. Materazzi got what he wanted. Its all mind games out there. Forza Italia
