Real Madrid announce Cannavaro and Emerson deals
Jul 19, 2006, 23:18 GMT
Madrid - Real Madrid announced the signing of Juventus veterans Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson, shortly after midnight on Thursday.
Real's official website did not state how much will be paid to Juventus for the two players, but the combined fee is expected to be around 23 million euros.
Real sporting director Pedja Mijatovic had been in Turin all Wednesday negotiating the signings, the first in the presidency of Ramon Calderon.
Both players had been expressly requested by new Real coach Fabio Capello, who was formerly in charge of Juventus.
Capello was also interested in signing Juve defenders Lilian Thuram and Gianluca Zambrotta, but it seems that these two are bound for arch-rivals Barcelona, who will pay around 19 million euros for them.
Juventus has been forced to sell off many of its players, after being relegated to the Italian Serie B due to a match-fixing scandal.
Real are still interested in signing Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy, though a 14-million-euro offer for him was turned down Wednesday by Manchester United.
