Liberec, Czech Republic - Bernhard Gruber of Austria claimed his first World Cup win in almost four years in Nordic combined skiing on Saturday.
Placed second in the morning ski-jumping portion in difficult conditions, Gruber won the 10km cross-country pursuit in 27 minutes 29.6 seconds. It was his third career win, the first two coming in February and March 2008.
Eric Frenzel of Germany was second, 22.0 seconds off the pace, and Austrian Wilhelm Denifl was third on the podium with a deficit of 25.2 seconds.
Frenchman Jason Lamy Chappuis had to settle for 21st, but tops the World Cup in his bid for back-to-back titles with 1,173 points from Japan's Akito Watabe (970).
Another Nordic combined event in Liberec is scheduled for Sunday.
Later Saturday, the ski-jumpers were to compete for the ski-flying world title in Vikersund, Norway. The event will be held in three rounds after the original four-round format on Friday and Saturday fell victim to adverse wind conditions Friday.
