Feb 10, 2012, 13:49 GMT
Kontiolahti, Finland - France finished ahead of Ukraine and Slovakia to win the mixed relay in the biathlon World Cup in a race which almost fell victim to freezing temperatures in Kontiolahti Friday.
Sophie Boilley, Anais Bescond, Jean Guillaume Beatrix and Vincent Jay posted 1 hour 26 minutes 22.9 seconds for the 2x6 and 2x7.5km race, to beat Ukraine by one second, with Slovakia 43.6 seconds back.
The relay was delayed to allow temperatures to rise, after minus 20.4 degrees was measured on the coldest part of the course shortly before the race.
The regulations do not allow races below 20 degrees in measurements taken at 1.5 metres above the ground.
As temperatures rose the race went ahead, with minus 18 degrees recorded on the course.
