Canada's Kershaw gets first career win in cross-country World Cup
Feb 4, 2012, 11:34 GMT
Rybinsk, Russia - Davon Kershaw on Saturday became the second Canadian man to win a cross-country World Cup ski race when he prevailed in a sprint to the line of a 15km mass start event.
Kershaw pipped local hope Ilia Chernousov and Tobias Angerer of Germany for first place in 36 minutes 47.5 seconds as the top three were separated by just 1.6 seconds in freezing conditions in Russia.
Kershaw, 29, had come third twice this season before his biggest World Cup success, and also has one third place from 2006.
The only other Canadian winner on the men's side is Pierre Harvey, who topped three races in 1987 and 1988. Beckie Scott and Chandra Crawford are Canadian women's race winners.
A women's 10km mass start event was scheduled for later Saturday in Rybinsk.
Other Nordic skiing on the day is a Nordic combined team event and large hill ski-jumping, both in Val di Fiemme, Italy.
