Los Angeles - Reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose erupted for 15 of his 32 points in the final quarter and handed out 13 assists as the visiting Chicago Bulls held off the New York Knicks 105-102 Thursday night.
The Knicks had a final shot to send the game into overtime after Rose split a pair of free throws in the waning seconds. However, Carmelo Anthony missed a long desperation three-pointer from the right wing at the buzzer.
Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver chipped in with 16 points apiece for the Eastern Conference-leading Bulls (19-6), who rebounded from Wednesday's blowout at Philadelphia to improve to 2-2 on their grueling nine-game road trip.
Amar'e Stoudemire had a season-high 34 points with 11 rebounds, while Anthony scored 26 for struggling New York (8-14), which fell for the 10th time in the last 12 outings.
Italy's Danilo Gallinari drained all five of his threes en route to 21 points while Ty Lawson added 18 and the visiting Denver Nuggets dominated the middle two periods, 67-35, to snap the LA Clippers' four-game winning streak, 112-91.
Blake Griffin led the Pacific-Division-leading Clippers with 18 points while fellow All-Star starter Chris Paul contributed 15 and nine assists.
Tim Duncan had 19 points with nine rebounds, Frenchman Tony Parker scored eight of his 18 points in the final quarter, and the San Antonio Spurs rolled to their third consecutive win while handing the visiting New Orleans Hornets their fourth straight loss, 93-81.
Elsewhere: the visiting Memphis Grizzlies caged the Atlanta Hawks 96-77; the Sacramento Kings trimmed the visiting Portland Trail Blazers 95-92; and the Golden State Warriors drummed the visiting Utah Jazz 119-101.
