Jan 28, 2012, 9:33 GMT

Sapporo, Japan - Daiki Ito edged Norway's Anders Bardal by the slimmest margin to claim his first career ski-jumping World Cup victory on Saturday in front of a Japanese home crowd.

Ito, 26, soared 134 and 130 metres to win the large hill competition under floodlights with 252.6 points. He had seven podiums in second or third place in the past before finally getting his first victory on Saturday.

Bardal trailed by just a tenth of a point in second with 252.5 and Kamil Stoch of Poland was third with 247.2 points.

World Cup leader Andreas Kofler was the best Austrian in ninth place for now 934 points. Bardal has 889 points as he moved past Four Hills champion Gregor Schlierenzauer, who remained on 867 points after not making the trip to Japan.

A second competition is scheduled for Sunday in Sapporo.
