Al-Attiyah: 'Never again' in a Hummer
Jan 12, 2012, 13:49 GMT
Iquique, Chile - Defending champion Nasser al-Attiyah, who withdrew from the current edition of the Dakar Rally on Tuesday due to technical problems in his Hummer, said he would 'never again' race with that car.
US driver Robby Gordon, who also races in a Hummer and stands second in the overall standings behind Stephane Peterhansel's Mini, was annoyed by his Qatari team-mate's comments.
'The problem is not the Hummer's, but al-Attiyah's,' he said.
Gordon complained that al-Attiyah had pushed the car too far and claimed that the Qatari had been wanting to leave the competition for days.
Al-Attiyah is to make his debut in the World Rally Championship on Sunday, on a Citroen DS3. There is speculation that he was upset about missing the first stage of that event, in Monte Carlo, and that he only planned to stay in the Dakar Rally until the end if he had a chance to defend the title he won last year.
