Biathlon birthday joy for Makarainen

Nove Mesto, Czech Republic - Finland's Kaisa Makarainen celebrated her 29th birthday Wednesday with victory in the 15m women's biathlon World Cup event at the Czech ski centre Nove Mesto.
Makarainen posted 45 minutes 3.3 seconds with two shooting errors to gain a fourth World Cup victory, beating Sweden's Helena Ekholm by 0.22 (one error), with World Cup leader Magdalena Neuner of Germany 32.9 seconds back after two errors.
Neuner, who had won the last two races in Oberhof, Germany, has 504 points in the standings, followed by Darya Domracheva of Belarus on 457 and Makarainen on 433.
The biathlon World Cup continues Thursday in Nove Mesto with a men's 20km race, while the next women's event is a 7.5km sprint at the venue Friday.
