Shorthanded Heat clip Hawks in triple overtime
Jan 6, 2012, 7:17 GMT
Los Angeles - Chris Bosh scored 33 points, including a game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation, Mario Chalmers added five of his 29 in the third overtime, and the short-handed Miami Heat clipped the Atlanta Hawks 116-109 Thursday night.
The Heat improved to 7-1 this season despite playing without superstars LeBron James and Dwaye Wade, who were nursing ankle and foot injures, respectively. But the two cheered on their teammates from the bench and they delivered, blanking their guests 7-0 in the third extra session.
Joe Johnson scored 20 points for the Hawks, who were looking to beat the Heat for the second time in four days.
Matt Bonner led five players in double figures with 17 points, and the Spurs knocked down 16 threes, to crush the reigning NBA Champion Mavericks, 93-71.
Richard Jefferson scored 16 for the host Spurs, winners of two in a row since losing two-time All-Star guard Manu Ginobili to a broken left hand Monday at Minnesota.
German player Dirk Nowitzki was held to six points for Dallas, which lost All-Star point guard Jason Kidd to a back injury late in the first quarter.
Tyreke Evans scored 26, including four free throws in the final 18 seconds, and the Kings under new head coach Keith Smart, rallied from 21 down at halftime to beat the visiting Milwaukee Bucks 103-100.
Earlier in the day, Smart replaced Paul Westphal, who was fired after the Kings slow 2-5 start.
Brandon Jennings scored 31 points to pace Milwaukee, which has dropped three in a row.
Elsewhere: The Portland Trail Blazers pulled away in the second half to beat the visiting LA Lakers 107-96.
