Los Angeles - The San Antonio Spurs got a bad break after learning they will be without two-time NBA All-Star guard Manu Ginobili for the next six-to-eight weeks.
The Argentine ace is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday to repair a broken bone in his left shooting hand suffered in the second quarter of the Spurs loss at Minnesota on Monday.
'They have to put it back together again,' Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich told the San Antonio News-Express. 'I don't know what they are going to do, but he's going to have surgery.'
Said Ginobili via his twitter account: 'Tmrw I'll have a plate & screws on my beloved left hand. Not thrilled. I'll keep u posted. Thank u all!'
As a result, the Spurs have recalled Gary Neal from the Austin Toros in the NBA Development League.
Neal was assigned to the Toros on January 2 for a medical rehab assignment after undergoing an appendectomy on December 12, 2011.
