US racer Lanning suffers fractured neck vertebra

Lake Louise, Canada - US skier Thomas Lanning sustained a dislocated knee and a fractured neck vertebra in his crash in Saturday's downhill at Lake Louise, the team's medical director Richard Quincy said Sunday. The crash came in Lanning's first race since returning from a cruciate ligament injury suiffered at Kitzbuehel, Austria in January. Lanning, who was airlifted off the course, is being treated in Calgary before an expected transfer to a specialist clinic at Vail, Colorado. Before his knee injury in a crash at Kitzbuehel, Lanning had suffered a broken nose in 2006 and a torn meniscus in 2008.
