French minister warns Armstrong on doping

Paris - French Health Minister Roselyne Bachelot Friday warned seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong that he will be given special attention in the matter of doping, the online edition of the weekly Le Point reported. 'I say to Lance Armstrong that he will be especially, especially, especially watched,' Bachelot said. 'The fight against doping must be very active.' However, the suggestion that the 37-year-old American will be singled out contradicts statements made by the head of the French Anti-Doping Authority (AFLD), Pierre Bordry. In an interview with the German Press Agency dpa earlier this week, Bordry denied that any rider has ever been or will be singled out. 'There are no special targets,' Bordry said. 'And there is no special immunity.' The sport's ruling body, the Union of International Cycling Union (UCI), said that a group of about 50 Tour riders will be given special attention when it comes to testing for illegal performance-enhancing substances. This group consist of favourites to win the race or a stage as well as those whose previous tests have raised suspicion. Although no one from the UCI was willing to say so, Armstrong is almost certainly included in that group.
