Vansevenant set for Tour record - placed last three straight years

Saint-Amand-Montrond, France - While Cadel Evans aimed to win the Tour de France for the first time his Belgian team-mate Wim Vansevenant all but assured himself of last place at the famed race a third straight year. Vansevenant, 36, claimed last place when he finished Saturday's time trial 1 minute 35 seconds slower than the previous tail-ender Bernhard Eisel of Austria. With no changes expected on final stage to Paris on Sunday, Vansevenant will be the first rider to complete the Tour rock-bottom three years in a row. He just missed it in 2005 because one other rider was even slower, but then did better 2006 and 2007. On Saturday, he compared himself with American Lance Armstrong, who came first a record seven years. 'Lance has seven titles, I have another record,' said Vansevenant, who loyally helped the Australian Evans to do well at the Tour.
