More Landis Tour de France samples tested positive: report

Paris - Additional tests of urine samples taken from 2006 Tour de France winner Floyd Landis have been found to contain traces of a banned substance, synthetic testosterone, the web site of the French sports daily L'Equipe reported on Monday. L'Equipe reported that Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometre (IRMS) tests by the National Laboratory for the Detection of Doping (LNDD) at Chatenay-Malabry, near Paris, 'in several instances' detected the presence of synthetic testosterone in the samples. Pierre Bordry, the president of the French Agency Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD), said the tests of seven urine samples taken from the American rider during last year's Tour were undertaken on April 16. The so-called B samples were tested retroactively at the request of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) after the A samples had tested negative. Landis first tested positive for the synthetic testosterone after the 2006 Tour de France, and has been fighting since then to avoid becoming the first-ever Tour winner to be stripped of his title. He and his legal team have said he is innocent and that the French tests were flawed. The 31-year-old Landis has also been involved in a lengthy procedure with the USADA regarding the positive finding at the Tour de France. He is scheduled to appear before the USADA on May 14.
