Doha, Qatar - China on Thursday comfortably surpassed the gold record mark they achieved in Busan at the Asian Games four years ago, as their dominance in most sports continued.
In the South Korean city of Busan China won 150 gold medals, after Thursday's early sessions, they already had 160.
Wimbledon women's doubles winners Zheng Jie and Yan Zi on Thursday added the women's Asian Games doubles to the title collection as they beat Taiwan's Chan Yung Jan and Chuang Chia Jung 6-1, 7-6.
It was Zheng's second title, as she had earlier won the women's singles. She thanked the organizers of the event. 'They provided us with the perfect environment to achieve such results,' she said.
The men's singles title went to Thailand's Danai Udomchoke, who beat South Korean Lee Hyung Taik in the final.
Chinese athletes in the canoe/kayak competition picked up three out of a possible six gold medals, with Kazakhstan winning two and Uzbekistan taking the final gold. These three countries took an astonishing 16 from 18 medals.
In the men's C1 500 metre competition, China's Yang Wenju won, with team-mate Liy Haitao taking the men's K1 500m. The women's K2 500m won the final Chinese gold medal.
Kazakhstan won the men's K2 500m, as well as the C2 500m, while Uzbekistan's Yulia Borzova took the women's K1 500m.
In the K2 Dmitriy Torlopov and Dmitriy Kaltenberger became the first paddlers to win the same event at three consecutive Asian Games.
Kaltenberger said he did not think that they would win another medal at the Asian Games in four years. 'But I'll try my best at the next Olympics. We had a difficult year, we travelled more than we usually do and our relationship with our head coach was not as good as it is supposed to be.'
In the wushu competition China's dominance was virtually complete as they won eight out of nine gold medals, with the only non-Chinese gold medallist on the day being Rene Sornito Catalan from the Philipinnes who won the men's 52kg division.
Li Teng took the men's 56kg, Ma Chao won the men's 60kg, Zhao Guangyong the men's 65kg and Xu Yanfei the men's 70kg.
The gold medal in the men's changquan - three events combined - was won by Yuan Xiaochao, while Ma Lingjuan took the women's event.
Wu Caibao won the men's nanquan - three events combined - while Mao Yaqi won the women's competition.
South Korea were again strong on the cycling track with Kang Dong Jin winning the men's keirin and Jang Sun Jae and Park Sung Baek combining to win the men's madison. Chinese cyclist Li Yan won the women's points race.
The women's softball tournament was won by Japan, who beat Taiwan in the final.
