Italy's Blardone scores razor-thin giant-slalom victory

Beaver Creek, Colorado - Massimiliano Blardone of Italy came out on top in a trio of racers separated by seven-100ths of a second Saturday in Beaver Creek, Colorado in the first giant slalom event of the men's alpine World Cup season.
Blardone finished with a two-run time of two minutes, 27.88 seconds. Nowegian Aksel Lund Svindal was just four-100ths behind in second place, followed even closer by Ted Ligety of the United States with a time of 2:27.95.
The trio on the medal stand were nearly half a second ahead of their closest competitors.
In the World Cup overall standings after six of 38 events, Svindal is now first with 221 points, following by Switzerland's with 204 and Italian Peter Fill at 184.
The men's World Cup weekend continues with a slalom race Sunday in Beaver Creek.
